  • On October 19, 2007, we sponsored lunch with world security expert, Joe Cirincione, at the Downtown Club, who has written a highly-acclaimed book on the future of nuclear weapons.
  • Joe Cirincione has since been appointed President of The Ploughshares Fund, a prime mover in peace, nuclear policy, and security programs, so PNA's congratulations on this appointment!
  • Conference, National Constitution Center, June 2, 2006. PNA’s very first project was a great success, a conference which attracted an overflow crowd to the National Constitution Center.
  • Speakers Program. This series of broadcast, video, and live appearances have featured our chairman, Dr. Eisendrath. The forums have also included famous peace activist and author, Helen Caldicott, Dr. Bob Edgar, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches, Dr. Mike McCally of PSR and others. They have focused on specific actions that could be undertaken by our government to secure nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation.
  • National Press Club Conference and Washington Visits, March 28-29 2007. In March, 2007, within one year of its founding, PNA convened activists, government officials, and members of academia to hear from many of the world’s leading authorities on the risks and obstacles to progress presented by nuclear weapons, as well as opportunities for action. The speakers came from leading think-tanks and research institutions for nuclear policy, such as MIT, the Union for Concerned Scientists, the Nuclear Policy Research Institute, the World Policy Institute, Physicians for Social Responsibility, the Global Security Institute, and the Council for a Livable World, in addition to Ambassadors Thomas Graham, Jr., and Robert Grey. Keynote speakers Rev. Bob Edgar (formerly of the National Council of Churches), and Dr. Hans Blix of the Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction also emphasized the importance of ending nuclear proliferation for all aspects of human life.   We then joined with Council for a Livable World and the Union of Concerned Scientists to educate Congress on the important issues of de-alerting nuclear weapons, the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, securing loose nuclear weapons and halting the proliferation of existing weapons, as well as ending the creation of new nuclear arms. Constituents visited their local representatives on the Hill, and PNA members spoke with key Congressional Committees— such as Foreign Relations, Energy, Armed Services, and Appropriations. Some Senators and Representatives discussed their own concerns with new nuclear developments, and equally important, other representatives acknowledged their lack of information on the subject and welcomed PNA’s legislative suggestions for a safer, nuclear-free world.

Why We Fight-- Ike's Farewell Address, and Magic Gardens Show
On January 17, 1961, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who led US and Allied Armies to re-conquer Europe from the Nazis, gave his farewell address as President.
He warned about the imminent rise of a military-industrial complex, which could endanger democracy.  The Sundance Award Grand Prize film by Eugene Jarecki,
Why We Fight, begins with Eisenhower's rarely-seen farewell to the American people.  It will be featured at the Magic Gardens, 6:45 PM, Sunday, August 9,
